Viking Survival Game in Valheim

 

The idea of Valheim, a Viking survival game at first, was hard to grasp for most. When we started our Kickstarter campaign on January 2nd, 2013 it went quiet on the media front. But as our project progressed and people got their hands on early demos, the buzz came in waves. And as with every crowdfunded project, there were ups and downs. It's been tough but also so rewarding.

We built our game around the idea of freedom in an open world, with survival aspects that are both fun and challenging. To us, it is most important to have a good feeling to the player when playing, and we can't describe how great it feels right now having players all over the world enjoying and loving Valheim. Responding to players and their wishes has been a huge part of our development process, it's something we take very seriously.

How to make a fishing rod in valheim

Viking survival game in Valheim will feature a lot of crafting since resources are hard to come by. And not everything can be bought at the local Viking store, so players need to get out there and explore!

Our crafting system is very easy to understand, being inspired by Minecraft. The more complicated systems are saved for later on when the game is in a more complete state.

At the moment there are 4 different gathering professions in Valheim.  

• Woodcutter: Gathers wood by chopping trees and bushes, among other things.

• Fisherman: Gathers food from lakes and rivers.

• Farmer: Plows fields to grow wheat and vegetables which can be used for cooking and alchemy.

• Stonecutter: Mines stone by breaking rocks, among other things.

Introduce the game and its premise

Valheim is a game where the player takes control over Viking clans. Your job, as Viking lord, is to make sure your clan prospers and survives by building settlements and waging wars, all the while exploring the vast world filled with mythological creatures.

The core of Valheim lies in its exploration. Every part of this Viking world is procedurally generated. This means that every player will have a unique experience when playing the game for the first time, exploring new lands and discovering new creatures & ways to fight them.

Show how the game is played

As Viking lord, you will build a stronghold for your people and make sure they have a place to sleep. You will also gather resources in the world around you, to craft weapons and armor for hunting, farming, or even waging wars against other clans.

Exploration is key in Valheim. By exploring you will discover new settlements with different leaders, who may accept to be your ally or prefer to fight you instead.

Offer tips on how to survive in the game

There are a lot of mythological creatures in Valheim, waiting to put the player's skills and equipment to the test. By defeating or even taming these creatures you can add them to your army and use them for farming, hunting, or in wars against other clans.

Valheim is an action RPG where the player controls a Viking chieftain. The game is set in a persistent world where everything is procedurally generated. You start off fighting for your very survival, but soon enough you will be exploring the vast world to discover new locations and riches.

Highlight some of the features that make Valheim unique

By showing players how to craft a simple fishing rod we want them to get excited and start exploring the world of Valheim. We also want people to see that we've gotten great feedback from our testers, making an already fun game even better!

Conclusion

Viking Survival Game in Valheim is a game inspired by games like Mount & Blade and Skyrim. We are big fans of the survival genre, but we don't really find it that appealing to spend hours just farming for food or chopping wood. That's why we decided to do something different with our own take on the survival game. Right now, we are adding features like diplomacy and taming to make the game an even richer experience.
